National and International Partnerships

IDIA’s work is built through national and international collaborations across astronomy, research infrastructure, visualisation, cloud computing, training, and science development. The partnerships below are presented with selected images from the committee source pack so the page reads less like a list and more like an active collaboration network.

The CARTA team at the annual CARTA Face to Face meeting.

Collaboration between IDIA, Institute of Astronomy and Astrophysics Academia Sinica, US National Radio Astronomy Observatory, and the Australian SKA Regional Centre to develop CARTA, the Cube Analysis and Rendering Tool for Astronomy. This IDIA-led project creates a visualisation tool for large astronomy data sets resident on server systems.

IDIA meets with BRICS astronomy colleagues at the BRICS Astronomy Working Group Meeting in Cape Town in 2023.

IDIA and SAAO are the South African leads on a collaboration for a BRICS Intelligent Telescope and Data Network, a flagship project of the BRICS Astronomy Working Group led by the South African Department of Science, Technology and Innovation.

The IDIA team helps facilitate a hackathon at a DARA Big Data meeting.

IDIA collaborates with the IAU OAD, African Astronomical Society (AfAS), and DARA Big Data programme on graduate industry skills research and big data skills development events.

A collaboration with the Italian National Institute for Astrophysics on enhancements to IDIA’s virtual reality visualisation system, iDaVIE, and broader radio astronomy cooperation.

IDIA also collaborates with SARAO, NICIS, EGI, CanDIAPL, ASTRON, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, JIVE, NRAO, IUCAA, CIRADA, the Instituto de Astrofísica de Andalucía, and SKA Science Data Processor partners on software, infrastructure, visualisation, cloud computing and science data centre work.
